Location: SYA kilim is a pileless, tapestry-woven rug or other textile with geometric designs in rich, brilliant colors, traditionally made in parts of the Middle East and neighboring regions. Because kilims are often less expensive than pile rugs as they are not so time consuming to make, beginning carpet collectors often start with them. Despite what many perceive as their secondary status to pile carpets, kilims have become increasingly collectible in themselves in recent years, with quality pieces now commanding high prices. They are a different nature of rugs woven for indigenous use as opposed to rugs woven on a strictly commercial basis. Because kilims were not a major export commodity, there were no foreign market pressures changing the designs, as happened with pile carpets.
For a classic living layout, place the rug in the centre of the room and place the front legs of your sofa and armchairs on the rug. This will help create a better aesthetic and cleaner appearance.
For those who don’t want a large rug but still want a warm underfoot when getting out of bed, we recommend a round or runner rug to place at either side of the bed.
For high traffic, spill-risk areas like the dining area, we recommend a low-pile rug and easy-to-clean material like polypropylene for a rug.
