Persian Tabriz Kourk

Stock No. ADL-141-001018

Size(m): 2.50×1.76

This is an extraordinarily beautiful handmade Persian Tabriz carpet. It is from cork wool, which is a very fine wool obtained from the throat of sheep. It is 2.50 meters by 1.76 meters in size. It would make a beautiful statement in any room.

What is interesting is that the central medallion is very much like a Russian doll. You have one pattern contained within the next pattern, and that is expanding out. In total, there are four of these ‘dolls’, if you like, and the inner pattern is a shade of rose pink that is beautifully harmonized with the next pattern, which is a sandy color that then becomes more of a gray-green, which then becomes a gray color at the very outer band of that motif. Those exact same colors appear in each of the four spandrels in that arrangement, with the inner corner band being the same as the very center of the central medallion Russian doll.

The impact of this carpet is extraordinary in that there is massive harmony, and this harmony is created also by a frame of the guard borders, which is a testament to the genius of the designer.

Guard borders are very important historically and culturally in relation to the construction of carpets. They were once there literally to guard the content of the field of the carpet, the central medallion. Nowadays, their purpose is highly decorative and, importantly, to frame the carpet itself. The outer guard border is a solid color, which is exactly the same color that appears in variations in the field of the carpet.

The solid-colored outer guard border in handmade Persian carpets serves both aesthetic and cultural purposes, contributing to the overall design and symbolism of the rug. Here are reasons behind the prevalent use of solid colors in the outer guard borders:

  1. Visual Frame and Definition: The solid-colored border acts as a visual frame, defining the boundaries of the rug. It helps bring focus to the intricate patterns and motifs within the central field and main guard borders, creating a sense of structure and clarity in the overall design.
  2. Enhanced Contrast and Highlighting: By keeping the outermost border in a solid color, the contrast with the inner patterns becomes more pronounced. This enhances the visibility and appreciation of the detailed craftsmanship within the rug, allowing the viewer to better appreciate the intricacies of the design.
  3. Timeless Elegance: Solid-colored borders contribute to the timeless elegance of Persian rugs. The simplicity of a single color complements the complexity of the inner patterns, resulting in a balanced and sophisticated aesthetic. This design choice has been a part of Persian rug-making traditions for centuries, reflecting a sense of enduring style.
  4. Cultural Continuity: The use of solid-colored borders aligns with traditional Persian rug-making techniques that have been passed down through generations. This continuity in design reflects a commitment to preserving cultural heritage and maintaining a connection with the rich history of Persian carpet weaving.
  5. Versatility and Adaptability: Solid-colored borders allow for greater versatility in matching the rug with various interior design styles and color schemes. The neutrality of the border makes it easier for the rug to complement a wide range of decors, making Persian rugs versatile additions to different spaces.
  6. Highlighting Inner Patterns: The solid border serves to draw attention inward, directing the viewer's gaze towards the central medallion and main guard borders. This intentional design choice guides the observer to appreciate the focal points of the rug, emphasizing the artistic elements within.

While the solid-colored outer guard border might seem simplistic, its role in framing, contrasting, and enhancing the overall beauty of the rug is integral to the artistic and cultural significance of Persian carpets. It represents a harmonious balance between simplicity and complexity, tradition and timeless elegance.

Intricately hand-knotted, this carpet beckons to be the focal point of any space. Its impact is nothing short of extraordinary, radiating harmony and craftsmanship that transcends generations. Purchase with absolute confidence, knowing that this rug is not just a possession; it's a legacy that promises enduring pleasure and admiration for years to come.

When choosing a rug for your living room, less is not more. Smaller rugs can make a space look smaller or cluttered in comparison to larger rugs which give the illusion of a more spacious room.
For a classic living layout, place the rug in the centre of the room and place the front legs of your sofa and armchairs on the rug. This will help create a better aesthetic and cleaner appearance.
A rug in the bedroom is all about a warm and comfortable underfoot, especially for those with hard flooring! For those wanting a larger rug for the room, we recommend a rectangular rug that sits right under the lower end of the bed and extends at least 50cm beyond the sides of the bed (depending on the size of your bedroom).
For those who don’t want a large rug but still want a warm underfoot when getting out of bed, we recommend a round or runner rug to place at either side of the bed.
Scale and proportion is key when placing a rug in your dining room. As a rule, you want your rug to be large enough to accommodate all the dining chairs, even when they are pulled out from the table. We recommend your rug be large enough to extend around 60-70cm beyond your table.
For high traffic, spill-risk areas like the dining area, we recommend a low-pile rug and easy-to-clean material like polypropylene for a rug.
