Persian Tabriz Kourk
Stock No. SY-141-001504
Size(m): 2.05×1.35
This is an extraordinary handmade carpet from the city of Tabriz in Persia. It measures 2-05 meters by 1.35 meters. It is an elongated curve shape, that is, it is an oval in shape. It looks like a human eye.
At the very center is a very beautiful but small flower that opens out into other circular shapes.
There are most beautiful floral arrangements throughout the central medallion and the field and guard borders. The guard borders have vases as an accent motif, from which are sprays of most beautiful flowers that move through the borders into the field of the carpet. The carpet has a most beautiful ivory eggshell white base color for the field, which is a wonderful foundation for the curvilinear vines that move through it. Attached to these vines are beautiful flowers. Most of them have elements of tan and ivory colors. These colors match and blend with the colors that also appear in the main guard border and the central motif in the drops. There are two drops, one north and one south, which provide continuity with respect to the design feature that is quite central, that is, the central medallion.
Everything sits in harmony and in peace with each other.
A carpet such as this would be absolutely ideal for an entrance hallway. The shape of the carpet is one of perfect harmony and design. The colors are restful, and yet there is sufficient vibrancy in the soft orange/red rust color to provide a sense of drama, but quite peacefully so.
Carpets made of Cork wool are of particular significance and importance because of the quality of the wood. It allows for very much higher knot count, and this enables clarity of the picture and a very crisp and beautiful depiction of curvilinear lines that would not be possible in a lower knot count.
The carpet is made from Kourk wool, which is a high-quality, fine-grade wool obtained from the neck or throat area of sheep. Here are some key properties and benefits associated with Kourk wool in Persian carpet making:
- Fine Texture: Kork wool is prized for its fine texture, making it exceptionally soft to the touch. This quality enhances the overall feel and comfort of the carpet.
- Natural Luster: Kuork wool often possesses a natural sheen or luster, contributing to the carpet’s visual appeal. This characteristic enhances the depth and richness of the colors used in the weaving.
- Resilience and Durability: Despite its softness, Kourk wool is known for its resilience and durability. Carpets woven with Kourk wool can withstand foot traffic and maintain their appearance over time.
- Natural Dye Absorption: Kourk wool has a higher ability to absorb natural dyes, allowing for vibrant and long-lasting coloration. This is particularly important in Persian carpet making where intricate and detailed patterns often rely on a diverse range of colors.
- Reduced Shedding: Carpets woven with Kourk wool may experience less shedding compared to those made with coarser wool. This is beneficial for maintaining the carpet’s appearance and longevity.
- Luxurious Quality: The combination of softness, luster, and durability makes Kourk wool highly desirable for creating luxurious Persian carpets. The carpets crafted with Kourk wool often command higher quality standards and are sought after by collectors.
In summary, Kourk wool’s fine texture, natural luster, durability, and dye-absorbing properties contribute to its excellence in Persian carpet making. Carpets woven with Kork wool are renowned for their luxurious feel, vibrant colors, and enduring beauty.
This Tabriz Kourk carpet, with its meticulous craftsmanship and deliberate color choices, becomes not only a functional piece but also a cultural expression. Its symbolism speaks to themes of balance, growth, and the appreciation of beauty within the rich tradition of Persian carpet weaving.

For a classic living layout, place the rug in the centre of the room and place the front legs of your sofa and armchairs on the rug. This will help create a better aesthetic and cleaner appearance.

For those who don’t want a large rug but still want a warm underfoot when getting out of bed, we recommend a round or runner rug to place at either side of the bed.

For high traffic, spill-risk areas like the dining area, we recommend a low-pile rug and easy-to-clean material like polypropylene for a rug.
